Hidden Frequency is alias of Finnish indie/electronic musician and producer Kimmo Koivula, born in Helsinki in 1983.
Inspired by the likes of The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers he started making electronic music in the late 1990s. The music was mostly break-beat, techno and drum & bass at first. After exploring many different genres during the years the musical style has slowly shifted towards downtempo, ambient and more experimental music.
The project Hidden Frequency started in 2012 and the debut album ‘Imaginary Time’ came out the following year. The sophomore album ‘The Fifth Element’ was released a year after that, in 2014. EP titled ‘Something From Nothing’ was also released in 2014. The single ‘Dreaming’ and the latest album ‘Wave Patterns’ were released in 2015.
New modular synth album is on the works and set to be released in 2017.
All releases are recorded in his home studio and have been independently produced and financed.
Hidden Frequency’s sound is focused on atmospheric soundscapes, chilled grooves and downtempo rhythms. He loves hardware and likes to experiment with different setups and sounds and play with odd time-signatures.
Genre-blending songs are fusion of electronica, downtempo, chill out, ambient, drum & bass, post-rock and experimental music.
The music is inspired by life, the universe and everything 🙂
